Quality Assurance Framework consultation
The QAF consultation was launched in May as part of an on-going process to help develop and improve the quality assurance (QA) of all postgraduate medical education across the UK. It offered an opportunity for all stakeholders in the postgraduate medical education sector to voice their opinions.
A total of 180 respondents took part: 79 of these submitted web-based or hard-copy forms and a further 101 responded at QAF roadshow events which took place in key cities across the UK during the summer.
The outcomes of this consultation were both positive and constructive. Key highlights included:
• PMETB visits will occur at least twice in this five-year period;
• The introduction of annual reporting from deaneries to PMETB;
• The introduction of annual surveys of trainers and trainees following the initial trainer survey conducted last year; and
• Action planning will be a requirement of all deaneries.
PMETB’s Director of Quality, Patricia Le Rolland said: “We have been really impressed by our stakeholders’ commitment to this consultation. Ensuring high standards in postgraduate medical education and training is one of PMETB’s most important responsibilities. The positive and constructive input we have received shows clear recognition of this work among our key audiences. Now we need to take forward what we have learned and implement the new Quality Framework for postgraduate medical education across the UK.”
