The Future Doctors Policy Statement
Published 1 October 2009
The Future Doctors Policy Statement is the culmination of the three year Future Doctors Review and is a positioning statement for the regulator of PMET.
As the organisation heads towards its merger with the GMC in 2010, PMETB is currently undertaking business integration planning to support this. The Future Doctors Policy Statement will be key for consideration by the GMCs Postgraduate Board as part of this integration.

Policy statement drafting methodology
The group was tasked with reviewing all research and evidence gathered in the earlier stages of the review. This included: the reports and recommendations from the four workstreams; the outputs from the workshops and events such as PMETB's National Stakeholder Conference; and the wider policy landscape. The outcome of the group's work was the Future Doctors Draft Policy Statement, which was based on the four themes drawn from the Boards work and discussions, and set out a range of challenges and suggested responses.
The draft statement was made publicly available on our website for information and comment prior to publication. Over 1000 stakeholders (members of PMETB mailing lists) were invited to submit their views, which were accepted by email, post and via the online comment tool created on our website for this purpose. At their meeting on 17 September, the Board discussed the comments received on the draft statement and agreed on the final content.
The final version of the statement was officially launched at the PMETB Annual Conference for Stakeholders on 1 October 2009.
