Important notice for those completing their training in June, July or August 2008 and for those applying for CEGPRs over this period

General Practice CCT applicants

2,000 doctors are due to complete GP registrar training between the end of July and the beginning of August. This busy period may mean that it takes slightly longer than our usual 10-15 working days to complete our administrative checks, award CCTs and submit those doctor’s names to the General Medical Council (GMC) for entry to the GP Register.

If you’re a GP trainee expecting to complete your programme of training on or before 31st July 2008, please help us process your CCT application as quickly as possible by taking these steps as soon as you can:

• Make sure you’re enrolled with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

• Ensure the Royal College of General Practitioners has your assessment forms (for some trainees this may be the final VTR form for others it may be the ARCP form - which should be generated electronically)

• Get your CCT application form and apply to PMETB for your CCT.

Please contact the RCGP’s certification unit: certification@rcgp.org.uk for further information.

Due to the demands placed on PMETB’s Certification unit during this period, there will be no guarantee that we can process last-minute applications in time to enable doctors to start practice during the first week of August 2008.

Article 11 (CEGPR) applicants

If you are applying for a Certification Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR) you must send your application form and supporting evidence directly to PMETB as soon as possible.   PMETB do not accept ARCP forms electronically, these must be printed off (together with any evidence from your eportfolio that you wish to submit with your application) and validated.  ARCP forms must be stamped by the Deanery and eportfolio material validated as described in the CEGPR Guidance.

Further information can be found on PMETB’s website: www.pmetb.org.uk/certification and the Royal College of General Practitioners’ website: www.rcgp.org.uk.

Specialist CCT applicants

PMETB will endeavour to continue processing CCTs for specialists completing their training around this time, but as GPs cannot take up their posts until they are entered onto the GP Register, they must take priority. Therefore we would advise specialists that it may be necessary for them to arrange with their prospective employer to take up their posts in a locum capacity until they receive their CCT certificate and are listed on the Specialist Register.
